Seasonal work and temporary job
Au Pairs in Australia must be overseas students, with or without any formal childcare qualifications, and be between 18 and 30 years of age. As Au Pairs are not qualified childcare workers/ nannies, they cannot be responsible for looking after babies under 12 months of age unsupervised for long periods of time (e.g. 2/3 hours maximum, not for the entire day). Au Pair placement is not a cheap holiday and can have its difficult days with kids, homesickness or routine. However you will find that you have plenty of free time to explore, go away for weekends, meet friends, go surfing etc. If you would like to attend language classes (or other courses) you can apply for a demi pair position. As a Demi Pair (half Au Pair) you normally attend language classes during the day (typically 8.00-14.00) and help the family in the afternoons with after school care, school pick up, bath and cooking from 3.00 pm till 7.00/7.30 pm. You need to consider this program very carefully as it is very full on and not everyone has the level of energy to keep up the phase of study, work, and complete your class work 5 days a week for several months. Please be also aware that the allowance you get from the family is a lot less than the cost of the course.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS · Min 20 years old · Drivers license · No Smoking ( no exceptions) · Min 6 months commitment (4 months if you are already in Australia or for Demi pair positions) · 200 hours experience in working with children, babysitting, youth club work etc · Eligible for a working holiday (or student visa for Demi pair program)
ENTRY VISA REQUIREMENTS
Au-Pairs from the following countries can apply for a working holiday visa to Australia: Germany, Denmark, Sweden, France, the Netherlands, Canada, U.K, Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malta, Norway, Hong Kong, Cyprus, Taiwan, Estonia and Finland.
If you are from Chile, Thailand or Turkey, you may be eligible to apply for a work and holiday visa (subclass 462), which provides similar opportunities for tertiary educated people aged 18 to 30. This visa has yearly quotas.

Australia has more than two hundred TEFL schools, most of which are located in Sydney, Queensland cities and Perth, with smaller numbers in Melbourne and Adelaide. Australia's Award system sets salaries and conditions by law. Typically wages in private colleges are those of the Teachers (English Colleges) Award, and vary from AUD175 to AUD230 per day, depending on qualifications and experience. A CELTA graduate with three years' experience could expect AUD180, pre-tax. The typical teaching week is 25 hours. During the peak season, September to December and to a lesser extent through to March, it's pretty much certain that a CELTA/ Trinity graduate- experienced or not, will get full time work, though demand is buoyant year round. As a general rule, colleges are interested only in CELTA or Trinity graduates.
